You will be impressed by this butterfly robot

After the release of the BionicOpter, in which Festo technically mastered the highly complex flight characteristics of the dragonfly, now FESTO has released another innovation – eMotionButterflies. The developers used their knowledge gained from the BionicOpter and other projects, combined the ultralight construction of artificial insects with coordinated flying behaviour.

The eMotionButterflies use indoor GPS with infrared cameras which transmit the position data to a central master computer. The master computer coordinates the butterflies from outside. The intelligent networking system creates a guidance and monitoring system to avoid collisions between eMotionButterflies.

The eMotionButterflies also impress with an intelligently employed mechanical system and the smallest possible power units in the tightest space. The reduced use of materials allows the true-to-nature flying behaviour.
